NASSP, AEE Host Briefing on Turnaround Schools

2010 MetLife Foundation-NASSP Break-
through Schools principals Lavonne Smiley of Tefft Middle School in Stream-
wood, IL, and Tom O’Brien (above) of Brentwood High School in Brentwood, NY, were featured speakers at a recent briefing cohosted by NASSP and the Alliance for Excellent Education (AEE) about the role of school leaders in turning around low-performing schools. NASSP Board Member Testifies at Cyber Safety Hearing

Barbara-Jane Paris, principal of Canyon Vista Middle School in Austin, TX, and a member of NASSP’s Board of Directors, testifies before the House Education and Labor Healthy Families and Communities Subcommittee on the role school leaders can play in addressing safety concerns about students using the Internet, especially the increased occurrence of cyberbullying. Applications Available for the 2011 NASSP Dissertation Awards

NASSP is now accepting applications and dissertation abstracts for the 2011 NASSP Dr. Ted Sizer Dissertation Awards. The awards seek to recognize outstanding dissertations focused on leadership research at the middle and high school levels. The competitions are open to doctoral students who have completed and successfully defended their dissertation between July 1, 2009, and June 30, 2010.
