**Note: On November 4, the NASSP Board of Directors approved a revised version of the NASSP position statement on National Academic Standards in K-12 Education, adopted May 2, 2008. This revised version is renamed "Common Core State Standards" and essentially endorses the Common Core State Standards initiative and makes specific recommendations to Congress, states, districts, and school leaders.
