Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards was created in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). It is the United States' largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. Over the past 14 years, the program has honored more than 90,000 young volunteers at the local, state, and national level.

The 2010 program year officially begins in September when information and application instructions will be mailed to all middle level and high schools in the country and to the following local organizations:

  • Girl Scout councils
  • County 4-H organizations
  • American Red Cross Chapters
  • YMCA
  • Affiliates of Hands On Network

The 2010 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards online application is now available.

Who is eligible for this award?

Students in grades 5-12 who are legal residents of any US State or the District of Columbia who have engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred at least partly during the 12 months prior to the date of application.

How does the application process work?

  • Students must submit a completed application to a school principal or the head of an officially designated local organization by November 2, 2009.
  • By November 9, 2009 schools or local organization have to select their local honorees and certify their application.
  • 102 State Honorees will be selected by Feb. 9, 2010. Each honoree will receive $1,000 unrestricted funds and will be invited to a four day celebration events in Washington, DC with one of their parents. All expenses will be paid by the program.
