NASSP Recommendations for Perkins Reauthorization

Investing in High Schools for the Future is the NASSP policy paper providing recommendations for the Perkins reauthorization. The principles and recommendations included reflect research and policy analyses by proponents and experts on high school reform; the needs of students, particularly those at risk; career and technical education (CTE) programs; and labor market conditions. The recommendations, intended to inform Congress as it develops new Perkins legislation, advocate that career and technical funds be:

  • Spent on CTE programs aimed at implementing proven and widely endorsed strategies for successful schooling
  • Used at local discretion in ways that enhance and expand improvements toward comprehensive, effective programs
  • Substantially increased to expand and reform quality CTE programming in high schools across the United States.
NASSP strongly believes that sound federal policy and substantial federal support for Perkins are essential to achieving these goals.
