Middle Level Reform
The National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform found that less than one third of America’s eighth graders can read and write with proficiency according to the most recent data available, and only a fraction of middle-grades students have teachers who are adequately trained to teach their subjects.
The debate over educational reform has focused primarily on the elementary and high school levels in recent years, but middle school reform must be included as part of this conversation since middle grades are inextricably linked to the entire education continuum.
